SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR NEXT WEEK!

ASVAB on Wednesday, February 24th – You will still come and get food, but there will be no syncing that day – ONLY SENIORS will be in the building – VIRTUAL WEDNESDAY WILL BE MOVED TO FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26th – You will come in to get help and sync on Friday instead because of testing.

Good luck to the Basketball team who will be playing at Alcoa tonight.  Congratulations to Hayden Frank, Ty Runyan, and Andrew Beaver for making All Districts.  Davion Evans, Parker Babb, and Jalen James were also Honorable Mention!

Congratulations to Skylan Wilson for making the Top 10 in the Walking Horse.

Distinguished Young Women (DYW) is open to Junior girls. Please see Ms. Susan Ray for information to participate by this Friday, 2/12.

Congratulations to Cecelia Blackledge and Will Harris. They are our MCHS Elks Teens of the month for February. They were chosen to represent the Tribe because of their academic excellence, good character, and outstanding citizenship.  Congratulations to these two great students!

 


Senior Information:

McMinn County High School Alumni Fund Scholarship has been increased from $1900 to $2500. The deadline for this scholarship is February 15th. Please refer to the November 23rd post on your senior counseling TEAMS for more information.

If you are interested in graduating with a Work Ethic Diploma, please check your email and senior school counseling TEAMS for more information.

  • Ned McWherter – Application Deadline 2/15
  • Carrie McConnell Scholarship – Application deadline is 2/15 – This is a local scholarship that you have to apply through the East TN Foundation website. Mrs. McConnell was a former school counselor at McMinn County High School. She was awesome and loved by the staff and students at MCHS. In February 2016, while preparing for her second heart transplant, Carrie suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. To honor her memory and to provide financial support to a deserving senior student, this scholarship was established by her family.
  • FAFSA DEADLINE IS MARCH 1st~ If you need help completing the FAFSA, please contact your counselor.

  • The Lite Institute is a program focused on etrepreneurship and community development.
  • 5 Students will be selected to attend worskshops on March 12 & 26, and April 9th.

No experience is necessary. We will teach and train you. We welcome new players at any time.

Guys practice on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Girls practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Advisory Today:

Today from 9:35 to 10:05 we will meet in Advisory.  Seniors will report to the gym after taking roll, and 9th through 11th will stay in class to watch the Tribe Video.  Students can find it in your counseling TEAM.


Elks Teens of the Month:

Congratulations to Cade Hipps and Marina Ajinov, and Caydin Dykes and Isabella Coleman. They are our MCHS Elks Teens of the month for December and January. Caydin and Isabella were chosen in January, and Cade and Marina were chosen in December to represent the Tribe because of their academic excellence, good character, and outstanding citizenship.  Congratulations to these two great students!

Don’t forget that you must be dress code compliant while at school. Hats are not allowed in school.

Check your grades and get any missing work in – talk to your teachers about this!

Seniors, Mr. Tubman is giving you one last chance to submit your senior quote and baby pictures, please check your school email to submit all senior information for the yearbook which is due end of the day on Friday!

Attention all Club Sponsors and students.  Club picture day is scheduled for Friday, February 12th. Mr. Tubman sent out a club picture schedule – please check it to see when you will be taking your picture.

Seniors, don’t forget your senior formal will be on February 24th and that your casuals are due to the yearbook staff by April 2nd.

ACT WORD OF THE DAY:

Ephemeral – Momentary or fleeting – ex. Sidewalk chalk is ephemeral because it will wash away in the rain.


Virtual/Brick and Mortar:

Students, if you were remote but are now back in the building (brick and mortar), please let the front office know.  If you were brick and mortar before but now remote, you must do paperwork and get approval before you can be considered remote.


Remote Wednesdays:

There is no live instruction on Wednesdays, but teachers will have an assignment for students to work on independently.  Once that assignment is done, students are counted as present for that day.


Senior Information:

Seniors, be sure to check your email – Balfour information and the link to the Senior Superlative form should now be in your inbox.


Building Protocols:

Protocols for in the Building – Wear your masks! 

Make sure to keep moving in the hallways and don’t stand around and loiter. 

Also, in the cafeteria for lunch time, there are now blue dots AND red dots.  Sit on the blue dots, red dots are lava – don’t sit there. 

Don’t forget that you must be dress code compliant while at school. Hats are not allowed in school.


Virtual Cherokee Showcase:

On Thursday at 5:30 – the topic is about class registration for 2021-2022.  Those in attendance could win free gift cards!
